The "Rules" of Improv at a Glance
1. No Blocking.
-
Say “Yes! And…”
-
Say the first thing that comes into your head – don’t censor yourself.
-
Avoid asking questions.
2. Make your partner look good.
-
First line of dialogue tells us who are.
-
Give them something to work with.
3. Don’t try to make the scene funny.
-
You cannot “bend” an actor or a scene to make them do what you want them to do.
-
Stick to the character you’ve created; stick to the story, and stay in the reality of the scene.
4. Use your location.
-
When running out of ideas, use/do something that is relevant to where the scene is taking place.
